Education: Education is the foundation of a strong economy, by providing the knowledge and skills needed to meet the ever-changing requirements of the global workforce. Every child should have access to a high-quality education and the opportunity to achieve the American dream. Public schools must be fully-funded to achieve the goal of providing children with the tools they need to succeed. We must never allow school voucher systems, which have failed time and again, to siphon funds into the coffers of for-profit businesses at our expense.

Healthcare: Texas is currently experiencing a healthcare crisis. We have the highest number of uninsured in the nation, and millions more are under-insured due to excessively high premiums. Many hospitals in rural areas are being closed, leaving even more Texans vulnerable. We must work to ensure that everyone has access to affordable, high-quality health care, and nobody should go bankrupt because they get sick.

Environment: Supplies of fossil-fuels are dwindling, and a transition to renewable sources of energy is inevitable. To ensure that we meet Texas’ growing energy demands, we must continue to improve and expand our existing renewable energy programs. We must encourage individuals, businesses and municipalities to obtain solar and wind power, and entice manufacturers of clean energy products to locate their businesses here. Clean energy is also profitable for those who embrace it, creating jobs 12 times faster than the rest of America’s economy according to Forbes magazine. Texas must adopt pro-clean energy policies as soon as possible, or our economy and our health will suffer.

Community Values: Everyone in a community should be valued, respected and treated with dignity. Your individual beliefs, religions, orientations, or any other distinction that makes you a unique person should be protected from both institutional and legislative discrimination. We should not be legalizing hatred and exclusion. Instead we should be celebrating the melting pot that is America.
